One step at a time.

- 2 · Connect
- 3 · App
Get the helper
Download and open the helper on a Windows 10 or 11 computer connected to the same home network as Audiobookshelf.
Download for Windows ↓64-bit Windows · No Node.js or other tools to install yourself.
The installer downloads a verified runtime from Node.js. This first release is unsigned, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Do not disable Windows security settings.
My books are on a NAS or another computer
That is fine. The helper can run on a separate Windows computer on the same network. Keep both computers switched on.
This download is for Windows. A Mac installer is not available.
Connect your home server
- Click Install helper in the window that opens.
- Enter the address you normally use to open Audiobookshelf.
- The helper shows a pairing code. Open the pairing page and enter that code.
- Save your recovery key, then return to the helper and click Confirm this pairing.
Where do I find my server address?
Open Audiobookshelf in your browser. Copy the address from the bar at the top. It often looks like http://192.168.1.50:13378.
Enter it in the helper, which runs on your own computer. You do not enter your Audiobookshelf password on this website.
Finish in Ink & Echo
- In the helper, click Copy address.
- Open Connect Audiobookshelf in Ink & Echo.
- Paste the new address into Server URL.
- Enter your usual Audiobookshelf username and password.
- Choose a book and check that it plays and skips forward.
Keep the helper running. If you chose “Start when I sign in”, it opens in the background next time you sign in to Windows.
To open its setup again, search Windows Start for Audiobookshelf Helper.
Tested with a real Audiobookshelf server: login, libraries, audio transfer, seeking and progress sync. Playback in the third-party Ink & Echo app still needs confirmation.
Do I need to buy anything?
No domain or certificate purchase is required. This connection uses our VPS and a free hostname service. Its availability also depends on that hostname service.
Who can access my books?
The new address is reachable over the internet. Your Audiobookshelf login protects your library. Your login and media traffic pass through our connection server, so the operator can technically access that traffic.
How do I disconnect?
Click Stop connection in the helper to stop streaming. To permanently remove the connection, open the pairing page, enter your recovery key and choose Permanently revoke.
